Human beings are not just consumers, resources or acceptable risk numbers to be exploited but parts of the same collective amalgamation of cellular energy that connects to the life force in a way that spreadsheets and data bases are not designed to measure. Green economy is nothing without a socially just bottom line and that takes collaboration and a multi-perspective additive vision that can change real systems in real time. Oh yeah, and talking/writing forever is not acceptable. Be the risk taker for the change you want to manifest. Green in biz as usual just trades the d in for an n.
Finding the White Space in Green Space

Innovation thrives in ‘white space’: areas where a company can succeed by identifying and answering an unmet consumer need.
In the world of green business, there is incredible white space. In fact, the abundance can appear overwhelming to corporate leaders looking to turn sustainability into a business opportunity.
In this excerpt from a speech delivered late 2010, Maddock Douglas VP of Green Innovation Marc Stoiber describes five areas of massive white space that corporations should consider as jumping off points to success.
Stoiber speaks coast to coast on the subject, and advises Maddock Douglas clients on honing their green product and brand.

Thanks for your great feedback, Deborah.
Spreadsheets may not be the right tool for measuring the collective amalgamation of cellular energy, but they're pretty good for motivating businesses. And business has proven itself a huge force - some would argue the most potent weapon we have in influencing climate change.
So getting businesses motivated to become more sustainable isn't a bad thing.
True, it won't lick the whole problem. But we gotta do what we can with the tools we're given. Waiting for 'collaboration and a multi-perspective additive vision that changes real systems in real time' is a bit like fiddling while Rome burns. Just look at Kyoto, Copenhagen and Cancun.
Oh yeah, and talking and writing aren't that bad, are they? Sure, I have solar panels, bike to work, insulate my house and compost, but that isn't going to reach as many people as spreading ideas thru writing and speaking.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
M
Hello Douglas,
True, we need the tools to change business by diversifying start up options where good ideas are supported, not killed because of their competing possibilities. We have a subsidized version of inequities that business created by getting too big, brash and focused in a narrow track of bottom line behaviors.
Business and fair profits goes with business and fair trade. Over production is a crime of resource abuse, wages that workers cannot live on and health jeopardized by agri biz, military biz and pharma biz have jeopardized our species and others. We are humans first and need to reshape priorities. Standards change constantly and talking and writing is foreplay. We actually have the collaborative tools we need but we have difficulty utilizing them. The builders, risk takers and interdisciplinary whole pattern conceptualist heroes lack support because the old garbage is in the path. Garbage made by planned obsolescence, fast growth and linear thinking. Innovation will be enhanced with new tools, yes,(like social entrepreneurial hubs) but we have what we need now if we encourage and enable it with our real time, real space actions and resources.
cheers and happy solstice,djb
