Last April, we accepted a friendly wager from DMC — a highly respected engineering and software development firm in Chicago (www.dmcinfo.com). The bet was pretty simple: Their company and ours were to enter running teams into LaSalle Bank’s 8K Shamrock Shuffle. The team with the lowest top 5 average time wins a prize. What was the prize? Well, they proposed a pizza party and blog entry stating the race results. The fact that it took me almost a year to write this entry makes it easy to guess the outcome: Their engineers spanked our innovators — figuratively speaking, of course. More specifically, their top five averaged 41:37 while our top five averaged 49:45.
Ouch.
This year MD decided to take them on again, adding beer to the pizza party prize. The good sports over at DMC even spotted the innovators at MD five minutes a person.
We still lost.
What gives? Is it the food over at DMC? The water? The Olympic recruiting program…? We’re not sure, but repeating now, we got our tail ends kicked twice.
So allow me to extend my sincere congratulations to DMC. You won fair and square and we tip our hats to you all. Enjoy the pizza and beer. In fact, please enjoy LOTS of pizza and beer. It may be our only chance of ever winning.
